OUR STORY

New York Rivers United (NYRU) is a statewide river conservation organization created in 1992 by a coalition of river groups to address the environmental and recreational consequences of the relicensing of more than 50 hydropower projects on various rivers across the state. Our leadership and success in hydropower reform, has resulted in NYRU becoming the "go to" organization for river conservation issues statewide as well as nationally.

Working with local communities and partners across the country we are now actively involved in watershed restoration and small dam removal, river advocacy and public education, Hudson River cleanup activities, and state and national policy development. Our important work has far-reaching and long-term consequences for the health of our rivers and our communities.
